Tripura CM Orders Probe into Tipra Motha Leader Pradyot Debbarma’s Complaint Against Gomati DM
Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has ordered a formal inquiry into allegations raised by Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, who accused Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma of repeatedly ignoring his requests for a meeting.
The directive was issued to Chief Secretary JK Sinha following Saha’s return to the state from an official visit to Delhi.
A senior official from the Chief Minister’s Office confirmed the decision, noting that the Chief Minister viewed the matter as serious. “The Chief Secretary has been asked to investigate the claims and submit a detailed report,” the official stated.
The issue came to light on Sunday evening when Pradyot told reporters that he had been trying to meet Chakma for over a month concerning district-level issues, but was repeatedly denied access. “I have tried to call him multiple times. I even came here in person, but he refused to meet me. What more can I do?” he said, visibly frustrated.
The incident has stirred political debate, particularly given Tipra Motha’s influential role in advocating for tribal rights and administrative accountability in Tripura. Pradyot’s remarks have resonated across the tribal-dominated regions, drawing attention to questions of transparency, governance, and responsiveness of bureaucrats to elected representatives and public figures.
With mounting pressure on the administration to ensure fair conduct by government officials, the inquiry is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping public trust in district-level governance.
