Tripura CM To Hold Talks With Retrenched Teachers On Nov 22
Guwahati: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha will speak with the 10,323 teachers who have been laid off on November 22.
The troubled situation of the fired teachers, who are on a death-fast demanding the restoration of their services, would be addressed by the Tripura administration in the best way possible.
A sizable contingent of 10,323 teachers who were laid off have been on a hunger strike close to Agartala’s Rabindra Bhavan for the past 32 days.
10,323 teachers’ representatives met with the Chief Minister earlier to request the return of their employment.
Chief Minister Saha assured that there will be a meeting of ‘extended form’ after Durga puja.
“The Chief Minister is scheduled to meet the legal representatives of 10,323 teachers to discuss their issue as promised earlier. The meeting will also be attended by Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Education Secretary Brijesh Pandey and myself,” Law Secretary Biswajit Palit said.
The meeting with the Chief Minister set for November 22 has been confirmed by Kamal Deb, the leader of the protest on behalf of 10,323 teachers.
He stated, “We have been told that the Chief Minister will host a lengthy session to discuss our issue and come up with a gradual solution for the welfare of 10,323 teachers.”
Deb praised the chief minister for launching a new initiative to address the issue.
The Tripura High Court dismissed all 10,323 teachers across all categories in 2014, judging the entire hiring process to be flawed and illegitimate following many writ petitions.
However, the High Court’s decision had been challenged by the then-Manik Sarkar administration in an SLP, which the Supreme Court dismissed in March 2017.
