Tripura CM Urges Centre to Repair Damaged Border Fencing with Bangladesh

Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has requested the Central government to repair the damaged barbed wire fencing along the state’s international border with Bangladesh. The northeastern state shares an 856 km border with Bangladesh, with around 80% of the border already fenced. However, several patches of fencing have been damaged due to natural causes like landslides and rains or deliberately cut off by miscreants.

Saha highlighted the issue during the North Eastern Council plenary session in December 2024 and has also discussed it with central leadership on multiple occasions. The matter is currently under consideration by the Centre, and Saha plans to bring it up again in Delhi. He emphasized the need for urgent attention to repair the damaged fencing and erect new fencing along unfenced patches.

Regarding infiltration, Saha stated that he has been in talks with the Border Security Forces and other security agencies to increase vigilance along the border. He assured that infiltration hasn’t increased at the anticipated rate and that agencies are taking necessary steps to deport illegal immigrants.

In a separate event, Saha unveiled the ‘Seva, Sushan, Garib Kalyan of 11 Saal’ initiative, highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s successes over the past 11 years. The programme was launched at the party’s state headquarters in the presence of BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee and general secretary Bipin Debbarma.
