Tripura Cong MLA: Parties Must Come Together to Save Democracy

Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) coalition administration has worsened the state’s law-and-order situation, and the Tripura Congress has asked to all “like-minded parties” to unite to defend democracy, lives, and property of the people.

Tripura Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman claimed that the current saffron-led administration has badly undermined democratic values.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Barman said, “A group of persons from the Balerdepa neighbourhood of the Sepahijala district abducted a sixteen-year-old girl from a minority community on Sunday. Despite a complaint being made, police officers were unable to save the girl, which infuriated the pupils.

He said that the police had failed to protect the state’s defenceless citizens.

The former state health minister claimed that the situation is “worse than that of jungle raj,” and that the BJP has “lost people’s trust and the party leaders have already smelt it.”

He further urged “like-minded parties to come together on a single platform” to safeguard democracy, people’s lives, and their property.

“The appeal is not to deal with the electoral coalition; it is to bring together like-minded parties for the cause of democracy,” he stated. The comprehension of elections is a separate matter.
