Tripura Congress Alleges Bias in Hoarding Removal, Seeks Election Commission Intervention

Northeast Desk, 10th April: The Pradesh Congress Committee has lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India, Rajiv Kumar, alleging bias and demanding an inquiry into the actions of the Sub-division Magistrate of Mohanpur in West District.

According to the letter submitted by Pradesh Congress Committee President Asish Kumar Saha, the SDM of Mohanpur, Subash Datta, purportedly instructed Congress workers to remove their hoardings near BJP’s hoardings on the Agartala-Khowai main road, specifically in Kalachara Chowmuhani.

Saha criticized this directive as a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), particularly citing the selective targeting of INC’s hoardings while BJP’s remained untouched nearby. He argued that Datta’s justification of the area being government property lacked consistency, especially in the context of the disparate treatment between the two parties’ hoardings.

Demanding immediate corrective action, Saha emphasized the need for impartiality in the removal of political hoardings, urging the Election Commission to ensure fairness and uphold democratic principles. He asserted that the discriminatory behavior against INC workers was unacceptable and called for a thorough investigation and appropriate measures to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
