Tripura Congress Seeks CPI(M) Support to Counter BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha Polls

Northeast Desk, 14th December: Tripura Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman has appealed to the CPI(M) for support in facing the BJP in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the northeastern state. In the recent assembly elections, the CPI(M)-led Left Front formed an electoral alliance with the Congress to jointly contest against the BJP-IPFT combine, securing a few seats.

“Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) is preparing itself to take on the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections here. We understood the gravity of the assembly polls in which the CPI(M) fought in more seats than the Congress,” mentioned Roy Barman, acknowledging the importance of strategic collaboration.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP clinched both parliamentary constituencies, West Tripura and East Tripura (reserved for ST). Roy Barman emphasized the need for collaborative efforts, stating, “To defeat the BJP in the state, I wish the CPI(M) to extend support to the Congress in the parliamentary elections. The Congress can’t sacrifice all the time.”

While expressing openness to discussions with other parties, including Tipra Motha, the main opposition in Tripura, Roy Barman affirmed that TPCC would abide by decisions made by the central leadership of the Congress.

The dynamics of potential alliances and strategic partnerships will likely play a crucial role in shaping the political landscape as parties gear up for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls in Tripura.
