Tripura: CPI(M) Alleges Hindu-Backed Groups of Fomenting Divisions Regarding Ancient Structure

Northeast Desk, 13th December: CPIM State Committee Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury expressed concern today, stating that certain individuals are actively fostering communal discord by raising contentious issues, such as advocating for the removal of converted tribals from the Scheduled Tribes list and a dispute involving an ancient structure purportedly identified as a mosque.

During a press conference, Chaudhury voiced opposition to the December 25 rally organized by the Janajati Suraksha Mancha, which calls for the exclusion of individuals from the Scheduled Tribes list if they embrace Christianity. He attributed these incidents to the ruling party, accusing them of escalating tribal conflicts and jeopardizing fraternity in the state through their arrogant behavior and various announced programs.

Chaudhury underscored the unfortunate nature of scheduling such a gathering on Christmas Day, asserting that it is deeply regrettable, with support from the RSS adding to the concerns. He urged the government to take immediate action against this perceived attempt to disrupt the state’s unity and incite discord.

Expressing dismay over the state government granting permission for the JSM rally on December 25, Jitendra raised questions about the police administration’s allowance of what he deemed an unconstitutional event. He called upon the government to halt the gathering, emphasizing the potential consequences of such actions on the state’s harmony.

In his critique of JSM, Chaudhury highlighted issues like the absence of village committee elections in ADC areas, unpaid fair dues, and poor educational conditions. He accused the JSM of attempting to undermine state unity by promoting unconstitutional ideas. Additionally, he brought attention to a recent controversy where the Hindu Jagaran Mancha claimed a mosque in the Belonia border area as a Jagannath temple, leading to tensions and police deployment. Chaudhury emphasized the alarming religious incitement and attempts to exploit secularism for divisive purposes, urging responsible authorities to address these concerns promptly.
