Tripura CPI(M) Leader Demands Transparency Over Insurgency Revival Allegations

Agartala: Tripura CPI(M) leader Jitendra Chaudhury has challenged Chief Minister Manik Saha to disclose the names of those allegedly attempting to revive insurgency in the state. His demand follows the chief minister’s recent statement warning of renewed militancy efforts in Tripura, a state that witnessed the surrender of over 500 militants last year.

In a video message posted on Facebook, Chaudhury urged the chief minister to reveal specific names, asserting that the CPI(M) would stand by the government in addressing the issue. He emphasized that despite ideological differences, the Communist Party has a long-standing commitment to protecting national sovereignty. Calling for accountability, he encouraged the public to demand answers from the chief minister and insisted that immediate action should be taken against any entity involved in destabilizing the state.

Expressing skepticism over the timing of the chief minister’s statement, Chaudhury accused the BJP-led government of ignoring the issue for months. He recalled that the CPI(M) had flagged concerns about insurgency revival six months ago but claimed the administration had remained silent. He also pointed out that former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar had previously raised similar concerns, only to be dismissed by the current leadership.

Criticizing the government’s handling of law and order, Chaudhury questioned its narrative of peace and security. He highlighted the abrupt surrender of 584 militants in September 2024, contrasting it with what he described as the effective militancy control achieved under the seventh Left Front government. While acknowledging that some aging militants still remained in Bangladesh, he insisted that insurgency had already been significantly curbed before the BJP came to power.

Chaudhury’s remarks have intensified the political debate in Tripura, putting pressure on the ruling government to substantiate its claims and take concrete steps to prevent a resurgence of insurgency in the state.
