Tripura Electoral Office Addresses Model Code of Conduct Violations
Northeast Desk, 11th April: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer in Tripura has been proactive in addressing Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations, receiving 15 complaints from various political parties since the enforcement of the MCC on March 16. As part of its ongoing efforts, the office has suspended five government officials found guilty of breaching the code.
Chief Electoral Officer Puneet Agarwal, along with West Parliamentary Returning Officer Vishal Kumar and others, inaugurated an Alpana Anushthan as part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation initiative. Speaking with reporters on the sidelines, Agarwal emphasized the office’s commitment to enforcing electoral integrity.
“We take immediate action against officials found guilty of MCC violations,” stated Agarwal. “Upon receiving complaints, we conduct thorough inquiries and suspend individuals involved in political engagements. Since the MCC enforcement, five government employees have faced suspension for their association with political parties.”
Agarwal underscored the importance of verifying complaints filed by political parties before initiating actions. “We encourage multiple channels for reporting, including C-vigil, the National Grievance Service Portal, and physical submissions. With 15 complaints received for MCC violations, prompt action is essential. We immediately investigate reports from any source, ensuring electoral fairness,” he added.
Agarwal also highlighted the deployment of 84 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) since April 1st to maintain security and order in Tripura. These units are engaged in flag marches, area dominations, and mobile patrolling across various regions, reinforcing the electoral process’s integrity and safeguarding democratic principles.
