Tripura Elevates Urban Development with Digital Integration of Building Clearances

Agartala: In a move set to transform urban development across the state, Tripura has successfully integrated its building clearance system with that of the Airports Authority of India (AAI). This significant digital leap is poised to dramatically accelerate approvals, eliminate bureaucratic redundancies, and inject greater transparency into crucial infrastructure projects.

The Government of Tripura and the AAI recently cemented a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), linking Tripura’s Single Window System for building approvals (SWS-OBPAS) directly with AAI’s No Objection Certificate Application System (NOCAS). This seamless integration facilitates automatic clearance for building height proposals, provided they align with the pre-defined permissible limits outlined in the Colour Coded Zoning Maps (CCZMs).

An official statement from AAI on X confirmed the efficiency gains, noting, “Under the new integration, building height clearance applications that fall within permissible limits as defined in the CCZM grids will now be auto-settled.” This crucial development means applicants will no longer be burdened with submitting a separate NOC request to AAI, thereby significantly streamlining the process for builders and developers operating within the state.

However, for projects situated in high-sensitivity areas, commonly referred to as Red Zones, manual clearance from AAI will remain a mandatory requirement. This is a critical safeguard due to their close proximity to flight paths and other vital safety zones, necessitating meticulous individual assessment.

The landmark agreement was formally signed by a distinguished panel of officials, including Purbita Thakur Sinha, Executive Director (ATM), AAI; M. Zhimo, General Manager (ATM), North Eastern Region, AAI; and Megha Jain, Director of the Urban Development Department, Government of Tripura. The proceedings were also graced by the presence of M. Suresh, Member (Air Navigation Services), AAI.
