Tripura Eyes AIIMS Collaboration to Bolster Healthcare
Agartala: Tripura is actively pursuing a significant upgrade to its healthcare infrastructure and services, with a strong emphasis on fostering a collaborative partnership with the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. This strategic move aims to leverage AIIMS’s expertise in research, development, and hospital management to elevate the state’s overall healthcare landscape.
A high-level four-member delegation from AIIMS-New Delhi, led by its Director, M. Srinivas, is slated to arrive in Tripura on June 7 for a two-day visit. State Health Secretary Kiran Gitte articulated the administration’s keenness for this enhanced collaboration, highlighting its potential to revolutionise healthcare delivery in the region.
During their visit, the AIIMS team is expected to hold discussions with Chief Minister Manik Saha, underscoring the state government’s commitment to this initiative. The delegation will also conduct on-ground assessments at key medical institutions, including the GBP Hospital and the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC). These visits will involve in-depth discussions with hospital authorities to identify areas for improvement and strategise on enhancing healthcare facilities.
Dr. Kanak Chowdhury, Deputy Medical Superintendent of GBP Hospital, expressed the critical importance of the upcoming visit, stating that it would provide invaluable guidance for upgrading the state’s premier healthcare facility. He informed that GBP Hospital currently attends to approximately 2,000 patients daily in its outpatient department and has already introduced seven super-speciality departments, including neurosurgery and urology. Dr. Chowdhury further elaborated that the AIIMS team will engage with various stakeholders at GBP Hospital to gain a comprehensive understanding of existing facilities and systemic shortcomings, subsequently offering recommendations for service enhancement. He also emphasised that the assistance from AIIMS would prove immensely beneficial for Tripura’s budding healthcare professionals, offering them exposure and learning opportunities.
