Tripura Finance Minister Tables Rs 32,423 Crore Deficit Budget for 2025-26
Agartala: Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy presented a Rs 32,423 crore deficit budget for the 2025-26 financial year on March 21.
Addressing a press conference, the finance minister announced that the government has not introduced any new taxes this fiscal year. However, 13 new schemes have been introduced, focusing on inclusive development and women’s empowerment.
The state’s own tax revenue is projected at Rs 4,010 crore, while the state’s own non-tax revenue is projected at Rs 504 crore for the 2025-26 financial year. The capital expenditure has been increased by 19.14 per cent to Rs 7,903 crore, aiming to boost the economy. The budget size has increased by Rs 4,618.77 crore compared to the previous year’s budget estimates.
The budget has allocated significant funds to various sectors, including Agriculture and Allied Sector, which received Rs 1,885.42 crore, marking a 9.49 per cent increase. The Education Sector has been allocated Rs 6,166.19 crore, with an increase of 11.94 per cent. Additionally, the Health Sector received Rs 1,948.69 crore, reflecting a 12.89 per cent rise.
The finance minister stated that the budget deficit stands at Rs 429.56 crore. The previous year’s budget estimates were Rs 27,804.67 crore, which was later revised to Rs 30,296.50 crore in the 2024-25 Revised Estimates.
