Tripura: FIR Filed Against Central Correctional Home Staff for Allegedly Aiding Prisoner’s Escape

Northeast Desk, 15th May: An FIR has been lodged against two individuals, including the Guard Commander of the Central Correctional Home in Tripura, for allegedly aiding a life-convicted prisoner in escaping custody.

Swarna Kr. Tripura, convicted of murder, reportedly escaped from the Central Correctional Home located at Bishalgarh in Sepahijala District on Tuesday.

Rakesh Chakraborty, the superintendent of the central correctional home, filed the FIR with the Bishalgarh police station, suspecting the involvement of two individuals.

According to the FIR, the life-convicted prisoner escaped from his block on May 14 at about 8 AM, as reported by the on-duty gatekeeper. CCTV footage revealed Tapan Rupini’s unauthorized presence in the ward the previous night, where Swarna Kr. Tripura was lodged. Rupini was seen assisting in opening the concerned lockup at about 8 PM on May 13.

The FIR also states that during the prisoner’s escape around 12:45 AM on May 14, he was carrying a bag potentially containing jailbreaking tools. The roles of Tapan Rupini, Warder, and Md. Mafiz Mia, Guard Commander of Kendriya Sansodhanagar, Tripura, were found to be suspicious, according to preliminary assessment.

The Superintendent requested the lodging of an FIR against the convicted prisoner and the implicated staff, along with others involved if any, and urged an effective investigation to trace or recapture the escaped prisoner.
