Tripura Government Issues Strict Guidelines on Loudspeaker Use Ahead of Durga Puja

Northeast Desk, 9th October: With Durga Puja festivities around the corner, the Tripura government has implemented stringent regulations on the use of loudspeakers and sound systems to curb noise pollution.

Director General of Police (DGP) Amitabh Ranjan on October 9 issued a stern warning that any violations of these sound regulations would lead to strict action by local police stations.

The government is aiming to maintain peaceful celebrations, ensuring that sound levels remain within permissible limits.

DGP Ranjan highlighted the importance of compliance, especially during the festive season when noise pollution tends to spike.

In preparation, multiple meetings have been held with members of Durga Puja committees and police officers across the state to communicate the guidelines effectively.

These include specific decibel limits for loudspeakers and firecrackers, particularly from 6 AM to 10 PM, with the goal of reducing noise during nighttime hours.

To ensure adherence, sound-measuring devices have been distributed to sub-divisions, and authorities have planned intensive patrolling across both rural and urban areas.

DGP Ranjan also emphasized that immediate action will be taken against violators and urged media personnel and the public to report any instances of excessive noise.

This move is seen as part of the state’s broader efforts to strike a balance between festive celebrations and public convenience, in line with High Court directives on noise pollution.
