Tripura Government to Establish Two New Organic Farming Research Institutes
Northeast Desk, 7th February: In a bid to bolster organic farming practices in Tripura, Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced on Wednesday that the state government has decided to set up two new organic farming research institutes in the state.
Minister Nath made this announcement after conducting an inspection at the State Agriculture Research Centre on Wednesday. He highlighted ongoing research initiatives, including the study of 32 varieties of rice aimed at enhancing agricultural methods in the state.
“We are actively engaged in research on 32 types of rice and five varieties of crops at the Seed Research Center in Arundhatinagar. Moreover, our advanced soil testing system, which has analyzed over 1.73 lakh soil samples in the last six years, informs cultivation decisions based on soil characteristics. Additionally, we conduct rigorous testing of seeds and fertilizers to ensure they contribute positively to agriculture,” stated Nath.
Emphasizing the importance of organic farming, Minister Nath highlighted the Central government’s and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on promoting organic agriculture, prompting the state government to prioritize it.
“The Department of Agriculture is taking steps to establish two new organic testing laboratories in the state, addressing the current lack of such facilities. We are also exploring collaborations with international research centers to further enhance our capabilities. Our goal is to achieve self-sufficiency in agriculture based on research-driven practices,” he added.
The announcement signals the state government’s commitment to advancing organic farming practices and ensuring sustainable agricultural development in Tripura.
