Tripura: Heatwave Warning Issued for Agartala and Surrounding Areas

Northeast Desk, 23rd April: The Department of Meteorology in Agartala has issued a stern warning for the next five days, signaling a potential heatwave that could see temperatures soaring above normal levels. Dr. Partha Roy, a scientist from the department, voiced his concerns regarding the impending heatwave and urged residents to prepare for unusually high temperatures.

Dr. Roy cautioned that temperatures in several districts across the state are expected to climb beyond 35 degrees Celsius, surpassing seasonal averages by a significant margin. Recent observations in Agartala city have already recorded temperatures reaching 37.5 degrees Celsius, marking a deviation of four degrees from the usual norms.

“Yesterday, temperatures soared to 37 degrees Celsius, indicating a 3.7-degree increase from the usual levels. While the heatwave persists, there is a glimmer of hope for relief in certain districts such as Dhalai, North, and Unakoti, where rain has been forecasted over the next three days,” remarked Dr. Roy.

Highlighting the importance of taking precautions during this period, Dr. Roy stressed the necessity of completing outdoor activities before ten in the morning to avoid the harsh midday heat, which could pose health risks. With the heatwave expected to persist, residents are advised to stay hydrated, seek shade, and limit outdoor exposure to minimize the impact of the soaring temperatures.
