Tripura: Husband Kills Wife Over Money Dispute in Unakoti District

Northeast Desk, 19th May: A horrifying incident unfolded late Saturday night in Latiapura Gram Panchayat, shaking the community to its core, as a husband brutally murdered his wife after she failed to bring money from her parental house. The accused, identified as Taur Ali, is currently on the run, evading law enforcement authorities.

According to police sources, Taur Ali had persistently demanded money from his wife’s family, escalating tensions in the household. Nichfa Begum, the deceased, recently underwent surgery outside the state and was brought back home by her younger brother. However, Taur demanded reimbursement for the medical expenses, which was refused by Nichfa’s brother due to Taur’s gambling addiction. In an attempt to escape the torment, Nichfa sought refuge at her father’s house but was forcibly brought back home by Taur, where her suffering continued.

The tragic incident unfolded on the night of May 18th when a heated argument erupted between the couple, resulting in Taur Ali attacking Nichfa with a sharp blade. He inflicted multiple fatal wounds to her head and neck, leading to her immediate demise.

The couple leaves behind three sons, with the eldest currently in Bangalore seeking employment, while the younger two were present at home during the horrific incident.

In response to the incident, officers from the Irani police station arrived at the scene early this morning and transported Nichfa Begum’s body to the Unakoti District Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.

“The police have launched a manhunt to apprehend Taur Ali, who is currently at large,” added a police official, highlighting the urgent efforts to bring the perpetrator to justice.
