Tripura: IPFT’s MLA Resigns, likely to join TIPRA
Guwahati: The BJP ally Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) has experienced a major setback prior to the 2023 state elections.
A prominent IPFT member and Asharambari MLA Mevar Kumar Jamatia have resigned from the legislature.
Jamatia gave notice of his resignation to Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly Ratan Chakraborty on Tuesday.
Former IPFT president and ex-Tripura minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia is most likely to join TIPRA.
Mevar Kumar Jamatia’s resignation as an MLA has reduced IPFT’s representation in the Tripura assembly to 5.
IPFT leader Dhananjay Tripura also quit as an MLA and joined TIPRA earlier.
BJP leader Burba Mohan Tripura also left his position as an MLA in September and joined TIPRA.
Jamatia is the seventh MLA to have deserted the BJP-IPFT ruling alliance in Tripura.
