Tripura Issues guidelines for animal sacrifice ahead of Eid
Guwahati: The Tripura government set instructions for animal sacrifice prior to Eid on July 10 and prohibited all forms of unlawful cattle slaughter and transportation.
According to the guidelines, animal sacrifice has been permitted, according to D K Chakma, the department’s director of animal husbandry.
He asserted that the Tripura government has no desire to offend anyone’s religious feelings.
According to Chakma, “We have received National Animal Welfare Board guidelines that highlight the numerous court rulings and current regulations against animal abuse.”
“The rules were distributed to all District Magistrates and SPs on June 18 of last year, as they serve as the enforcement body. As a result, the lower ranking officials have been apprised of the unique limits that have just been put in place,” he added.
“People may have misunderstood the concept of illegal animal sacrifice for animals,” the senior official continued. The central government’s set of guidelines clearly defines the issues and gives the appropriate instructions to the relevant agencies. The guidelines state that it is prohibited to sacrifice animals that are pregnant or have calves who are younger than a specified age. Similar to that, a number of criteria have been established to determine whether the slaughter is authorised or not.
According to Chakma, the slaughter of livestock and its unauthorised transportation are likewise prohibited.
“As per the cruelty against animals’ statute, movement of animals from one place to another has also been prescribed,” the director of animal husbandry continued. Any violation of it will result in legal action. Because of this, the public has been made aware of the directive.
It may be noted that the largest market for animals sacrificed for Eid is located in Sonamura in the Sepahijala neighbourhood.
Meanwhile, the order from the government has been received with a degree of confusion from the people.
SDM Sonamura Manik Das provided further clarification, stating that “the order has only been issued for illegal animal transportation and killing. This would not interfere with people’s religious practises in any way.
