Tripura: Lawyer arrested for alleged involvement in murder case

Northeast Desk, 13th November: Tripura police have arrested a lawyer linked to the alleged murder of a deed writer employed at a local court. The victim, Amit Acharjee, a deed writer at the district and sessions court, was reportedly assaulted by a group of lawyers due to professional rivalry.

According to police sources, the tragic incident occurred on September 5 when Acharjee was brutally beaten by several lawyers, causing severe injuries. Despite immediate medical attention and subsequent referral to Kolkata for advanced treatment, Acharjee succumbed to his injuries on September 23.

“Responding to the filed FIR, the police have detained one of the five accused, identified as lawyer Gopal Singh. Intensive raids are ongoing to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the case,” said unnamed police sources.

Detailing his struggles to seek justice for his son, the victim’s father, Dilip Acharjee, expressed the challenges he faced. He recounted his efforts, including reaching out to the governor, chief minister, and chief justice of the high court, all in the pursuit of justice.
