Tripura Left Front Committee Denounces Unconstitutional Demand to Delist Tribal Christians
Northeast Desk, 11th December: The Tripura Left Front Committee has strongly criticized the Janajati Suraksha Mancha’s demand for the exclusion of tribals who converted to Christianity from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category, terming it ‘unconstitutional’ and ‘provocative.’ In a press statement, the Left Front Committee expressed deep concern over the demand, emphasizing that the country’s secular constitution allows every citizen the right to choose their religion, and no laws mandate identifying scheduled castes or tribes based on religious conversion.
The Committee accused Janajati Suraksha Mancha of being an organization influenced by the RSS, with many BJP leaders allegedly leading the group. It further asserted that the RSS is determined to undermine tribal rights, citing concerns about water, land, and forests. The Left Front Committee strongly opposed what they view as anti-constitutional and divisive claims by the BJP and the government under the guise of Janajati Suraksha Mancha. The committee urged people of all religions, castes, and communities to maintain peace, harmony, and brotherhood.
