Tripura: Major Drug Seizure in Sepahijala District Worth Rs 1 Crore

Northeast Desk, 16th November: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Tripura Police, under the jurisdiction of Sepahijala District, successfully seized a substantial cache of narcotics valued at approximately Rs 1 crore. The operation was conducted in Melaghar, an area sharing a significant international border with Bangladesh.

The police had been monitoring the activities of an individual identified as Farooq Hossain for the past 3-4 days based on intelligence reports, suspecting him of hoarding a large quantity of drugs. Superintendent of Police for Sepahijala District, B Reddy, stated that diligent efforts by officers led to the execution of the operation.

During the raid at Farooq Hossain’s residence, the police discovered and confiscated 35,200 Yaba tablets and 158 bottles of Phensidyl. The estimated market value of the seized narcotics is Rs 1 crore. Although Farooq Hossain managed to evade arrest as he was reportedly absent from his residence during the operation, the police are actively pursuing leads to locate and apprehend him.

Superintendent Reddy assured the public that efforts are underway to bring the accused to justice and emphasized the commitment of law enforcement to combat the illicit drug trade in the region.
