Tripura: Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Raping 5-Year-Old in Sepahijala District
Northeast Desk, 1st February: The Bishalgarh Additional District and Sessions Judge Court in Sepahijala district has handed down a 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to Khokon Debnath for the alleged rape of a 5-year-old minor girl in 2019.
Special Public Prosecutor (POCSO) Ripon Sarkar confirmed that the victim’s family filed the case with the West Agartala Women Police Station, leading to the arrest of the accused on August 4, 2019.
The incident, initially under the jurisdiction of Bishalgarh Women Police Station, prompted the transfer of the case to Bishalgarh Police Station. After considering the testimony of 20 individuals and a significant period of jail custody, Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Debashis Kar pronounced the verdict on Friday, imposing a 10-year sentence and a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convicted Khokon Debnath.
