Tripura: Meghalaya’s CM promises to protect Northeastern culture at the Tipra Motha rally

Northeast Desk, 14th October: In a stirring address, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has sent a clear and resounding message that he will not stand idly by if any attempts are made to seize control of the Northeast region or tamper with the culture and rituals of indigenous communities. Sangma’s impassioned remarks were made during a massive rally organized by Tipra Motha in Khumulwng, Tripura.

Sangma began by addressing his decision to attend the Tipra Motha rally, stating, “I am going to Tripura to meet my Tiprasa brothers and sisters. I don’t need anyone’s permission to meet them.” His words emphasized the unity and brotherhood that binds the region.

Highlighting the rich tapestry of indigenous communities in the Northeast, Sangma acknowledged the historical struggles of indigenous leaders who have fought for their people’s rights. He underscored that while ideologies may differ, the common goals and aspirations of these communities remain the same. There is a shared commitment to safeguarding their sacred lands, preserving and protecting their unique cultures and rituals, and securing the future for the youth and women of the region.

Sangma made it clear that the indigenous communities are not against anyone but expressed their intent to coexist and work towards the overall development of the Northeast within India. However, the Chief Minister issued a stern warning: “If anyone attempts to take away our sacred land, alter our culture or rituals, and jeopardize the future of our youth, we will not remain silent.” He affirmed their patriotism and their readiness to stand up for the indigenous community’s rights.

Emphasizing that they are committed to the country, Sangma expressed the sentiment that they will not remain silent if anything adverse happens to their indigenous community. His closing words were a message of hope and progress: “Have faith that one day you will succeed, and you must progress, as it will be beneficial for the future generations.”

Sangma also called for unity among all indigenous communities in the Northeast and assured them that their concerns would be raised in parliament. His passionate address underlines the dedication of regional leaders to protect and preserve the unique identity and heritage of the Northeast’s indigenous communities.
