Tripura Minister Criticizes Left Front for Alleged Farmer Deprivation During 25-Year Rule
Northeast Desk, 11th December: Tripura’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, accused the former Left Front government of exploiting the state’s farmers throughout their 25-year rule.
During an event at Bairagibazar Nat Mandir in the Sonamura subdivision of Sepahijala district, the minister asserted, “For the past 25 years, the previous Left Front government deceived and deprived our farmers. However, the BJP-led government is actively engaged in developing modern agricultural infrastructure in every agricultural subdivision.”
The launch of the paddy procurement program for the current Kharif season at a minimum support price of Rs 2183 per quintal took place today. This collaborative effort between the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department and the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare spans 49 locations in the state.
The minister underscored the heightened enthusiasm among farmers due to the increased price of paddy, resulting in enhanced yields.
“Since the initiation of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) paddy procurement program, thousands of farmers in Tripura have reaped benefits. Although this has augmented the financial burden on the Tripura government, it has substantially improved the financial situation of the farmers. In contrast to the past, when there was no provision for purchasing paddy through MSP in Tripura, the current government is dedicated to advancing modern agricultural infrastructure in every agricultural subdivision to assist farmers in augmenting their income,” stated the Minister.
He emphasized the ongoing initiatives to ensure that farmers receive equitable prices for their produce.
“This year, the state government aims to procure over 50,000 metric tons of paddy from farmers. The minister expressed optimism, stating that we can achieve the target of procuring 50 thousand metric tons of paddy this year,” he added.
