Tripura Minister Unveils Plan to Tackle Price Rise, Improve Market Coordination
Agartala: Tripura’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, has announced plans to create a district-wise calendar for meetings with market associations to monitor essential commodity prices and prevent black marketing.
This move aims to address concerns over price rises, particularly for onions and potatoes, which are not covered under the Public Distribution System (PDS).
Chowdhury attributed price hikes to flooding, import costs from neighboring states, and transportation expenses. To combat this, the department will conduct regular raids against black marketing and impose fines on traders involved. The minister emphasized the need to expose those involved in black marketing to control price rises.
Key Initiatives:
- Regular Meetings: District-wise meetings with market associations to maintain coordination and synchronization
- Raids Against Black Marketing: Regular raids and fines on traders involved in black marketing
- Price Control Measures: Efforts to control the price of essential items
Additionally, Chowdhury informed that petrol supply issues, caused by a rail derailment, will be resolved soon, and Rabi Season paddy procurement will begin in December.
