Tripura Minister Urges Public to Champion Environmental Protection

Agartala: Tripura’s Forest Minister, Animesh Debbarma, today issued a fervent call to action, imploring citizens across the state to proactively engage in environmental safeguarding. Speaking on the occasion of World Environment Day, Debbarma underscored the critical need for collective responsibility in preserving the planet.

“On this World Environment Day, I extend my greetings to all,” stated Minister Debbarma. “This day serves as a crucial opportunity to raise awareness about environmental protection. If we fail to keep our surroundings clean, green, and healthy, it will directly impact human civilisation.” The Minister laid particular emphasis on the conservation of forests and the adoption of sustainable practices, advocating for extensive tree plantation and a significant reduction in the use of plastic and other non-biodegradable products. He reiterated that environmental protection transcends governmental duties, firmly asserting it as a shared societal endeavour.

Debbarma further elaborated on the direct correlation between environmental health and the well-being of the state. “If we want a healthy Tripura, we must protect our forests and pay attention to catchment areas, as neglecting them leads to frequent floods. It is everyone’s duty to contribute toward building a greener and cleaner state,” he affirmed. He concluded his address by urging the populace to commit to a pledge: to plant more trees, curtail plastic consumption, and unite in the preservation of Tripura’s inherent natural splendour. The statewide observance of World Environment Day, annually celebrated on June 5 to foster environmental awareness, saw an awareness rally organised by the Tripura Pollution Control Board, attracting a significant turnout of students and other citizens.
