Agartala, Tripura: Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, the General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), concluded a rigorous two-day operational safety inspection across vital railway installations in Tripura on June 19. The comprehensive review, spanning June 18 and 19, focused on bolstering safety protocols and infrastructure within the Lumding Division.
The inspection commenced in North Tripura at Dharmanagar railway station. From this point, Shrivastava undertook a meticulous “window trailing inspection” towards Agartala, a technique involving the close observation of track conditions and critical safety infrastructure from a moving train. This method is particularly crucial for regions like Tripura, known for its heavy rainfall and challenging terrain, which demand constant vigilance over track geometry and ballast conditions to ensure operational safety.
On the second day of his visit, June 19, the General Manager meticulously assessed the Agartala Coaching Depot, a facility pivotal for maintaining passenger coaches. His inspection delved into current maintenance practices, adherence to safety norms, and the depot’s capacity to manage increasing railway traffic efficiently.
A significant highlight of Shrivastava’s visit to the Agartala Coaching Depot was the inauguration of a new Electronic Laboratory. This state-of-the-art facility is expected to significantly enhance diagnostic and repair capabilities, streamlining maintenance operations. Following this, he inspected the staff running room at Agartala, focusing on living conditions, hygiene, and amenities, all of which are deemed crucial for the well-being and alertness of train operating crews.
Throughout the two-day audit, Shrivastava engaged extensively with railway staff and supervisors, reviewing existing safety protocols and assessing operational preparedness. He underscored the paramount importance of maintaining high standards in infrastructure, passenger service, and punctuality across the network. With the monsoon season now in full swing, the NFR chief issued directives to officials to remain exceptionally vigilant and proactive in mitigating any weather-related disruptions, thereby ensuring the continued safe and smooth operation of trains across the state.
