Tripura Opposition Urges Government for Comprehensive Flood Relief Strategy at All-Party Meeting
Northeast Desk, 25th August: In response to the recent devastating floods in Tripura, the state’s opposition parties have called upon the government to implement a robust and comprehensive strategy to rebuild the lives of affected residents. This appeal was made during an all-party meeting held on August 24, convened by Chief Minister Manik Saha.
Jitendra Chaudhury, CPI(M) State Committee Secretary, highlighted the urgent need for immediate aid to those who have lost their homes and are in dire need of food and shelter. Chaudhury also underscored the importance of long-term planning, urging the government to focus on strategies that will help flood victims restore their livelihoods once they return to their homes.
Criticizing the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chaudhury pointed out the lack of adequate warnings, which he claimed compromised the administration’s ability to prepare effectively for the disaster. He urged the government to address this issue to avoid similar complications in the future.
Pradesh Congress Committee President Asish Kumar Saha commended the Chief Minister for taking the initiative to organize the all-party meeting. In the discussions, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman proposed the formation of a joint all-party committee dedicated to assisting flood victims and advocating for additional support from the central government.
Roy Barman further recommended establishing district and sub-divisional level committees to ensure that relief efforts are efficiently and fairly distributed to those genuinely in need. He also expressed concerns over the inadequacy of the funds released by the central government, urging for an increase to meet the extensive needs of the flood-affected communities.
Both the CPI(M) and Congress stressed the importance of transparency and fairness in the distribution of flood relief, emphasizing the need to avoid any irregularities. In response, Chief Minister Manik Saha assured all parties that the concerns raised during the meeting would be taken seriously and addressed promptly.
The meeting marks a unified effort to ensure that Tripura’s flood-affected residents receive the support and resources they need to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the disaster.
