Tripura Police Act Swiftly Against Derogatory Social Media Posts Following Pahalgam Attack

Tripura Police have taken strong action against individuals who allegedly posted offensive remarks on social media platforms concerning the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. In a series of operations conducted between April 24th and 26th, law enforcement officials registered eight First Information Reports (FIRs) and apprehended or detained eight individuals across various districts within the state.

A senior official from the Tripura Police confirmed the arrests, noting that those implicated include a currently serving government employee and two retired government teachers. The official detailed the actions taken in different police jurisdictions. In Dharmanagar Police Station, located in the North District, three FIRs were filed. One of the retired teachers named in these FIRs was arrested but subsequently granted bail, while the other two individuals were summoned for questioning. Furthermore, in Kadamtala Police Station, also within the North District, an FIR was lodged against one Mansur Ali.

The police action extended to Dhalai District, where two individuals, identified as Jaharlal Debnath and Kuldip Mandal, were arrested. These two individuals have been placed in judicial custody and are scheduled to remain there until April 30th. Sepahijala District also saw an arrest, with Jahrul Islam being taken into custody but later released on bail. In South District, Pranab Das was booked in connection with similar derogatory social media activity.

The senior police official also highlighted the widespread public condemnation of the terror attack within Tripura. “Many protests also took place across the state protesting the terror attack and demanding strict actions against the perpetrators,” the official stated.

Following directives from Chief Minister Manik Saha, who recently convened a meeting with District Superintendents of Police (SPs) and District Magistrates, the police are also actively working to identify any Pakistani nationals residing within the state. However, the official clarified, “So far, there is no one in the state.” In a related development, security protocols along the Tripura-Bangladesh international border have been heightened as part of the overall response to the security situation.
