Tripura Police and BSF Arrest 28 Bangladeshi Nationals and Two Rohingyas in Separate Operations

Northeast Desk, July 28, 2024 In a coordinated effort, the Tripura Police and Border Security Force (BSF) have arrested 28 Bangladeshi nationals and two Rohingyas in separate operations across different locations.

Speaking with reporters, Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge at Agartala Railway Station, stated that authorities received information early on July 28 about a large number of Bangladeshi nationals arriving at the station. Acting on this intelligence, the BSF, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and other agencies cordoned off the station and blockaded all entry and exit points. “Initially, we detained 10 persons on suspicion, then the BSF detained 7 more, and eventually, we detained all 23 Bangladeshi nationals,” said Das. A case has been registered against them for entering Tripura illegally and attempting to travel to Chennai. The detainees have been produced before the Court, seeking police remand.

In a separate operation, a joint Mobile Check Post (MCP) of the BSF and Tripura Police in Amtali, West District, apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals, including one transgender individual. The apprehended persons have been identified as MD Tamim Hussain (18), Biplab Banik (53), Utpala Banik (42), Nijhar Banik (17), and Juli Pal (transgender, 18 years).

In another incident, alert BSF troops apprehended two Rohingya illegal migrants in the bordering area of BOP Tillabazar, North Tripura District, while they were attempting to enter Indian territory. The information provided by these individuals led to the apprehension of a suspected tout, and questioning is currently in progress. The BSF has enhanced vigilance and operations along the border to thwart attempts by infiltrators and touts.
