Tripura Police Bust Major Arms Cache in Agartala Raid
Agartala: In a significant breakthrough, Tripura Police unearthed a cache of illicit firearms during a late-night operation on August 26, culminating in the seizure of four pistols and seven magazines from a residence on the outskirts of the city. The raid, conducted near Amtali, targeted the home of Dipankar Sen, an individual already in judicial custody facing multiple charges related to illegal arms possession.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Amtali Police Station, led by SDPO Parmita Pandey, descended upon the premises. The search, described as painstaking, involved digging up parts of the floor inside the house. It was here, hidden beneath the concrete, that officers discovered the weapons. West District Superintendent of Police, Namit Pathak, confirmed the recovery, stating that the operation was based on credible intelligence. Preliminary assessments suggest the weapons are factory-made, though they have been sent for forensic analysis to confirm their origin and trace their potential network. Police sources indicate that Sen is a repeat offender, with his name linked to at least seven criminal cases, a majority of which involve illegal firearms, suggesting a deeper network of arms trafficking that authorities are now probing.
