Tripura Police Detain Five Bangladeshi Nationals and Indian Tout for Illegal Entry
Northeast Desk, 27th August: In a significant operation on Tuesday, August 27, Tripura Police detained five Bangladeshi nationals along with an Indian tout in the Nandan Nagar area of Agartala city. The action followed a tip-off regarding illegal immigrants residing in the area.
A police officer from the New Capital Complex Police Station informed reporters that the detained individuals had entered Tripura illegally a few months ago. “Upon receiving information about illegal Bangladeshi nationals in Nandan Nagar, we conducted a verification operation and identified five individuals as Bangladeshi nationals who had crossed into Tripura without proper documentation. During their preliminary interrogation, they attempted to conceal their identities, but further investigation revealed their illegal status. We also discovered Bangladeshi currency in their possession,” the officer stated.
The police also detained an Indian tout, identified as Ishan Ali, a resident of Murshidabad in West Bengal, who allegedly facilitated their illegal crossing into India. The detainees were unable to provide valid documents and eventually confessed to being Bangladeshi nationals. The group is expected to be presented before the court for legal proceedings.
This operation underscores ongoing efforts by the Tripura Police to curb illegal cross-border movements and enhance security in the region.
