Tripura Police Foil Cannabis Smuggling Attempt Worth Rs 50 Lakh at Churaibari Check Post

Northeast Desk, 7th June: In a significant operation late Thursday night, Tripura Police intercepted a truck at Churaibari Check Post on the Tripura-Assam border, thwarting an attempt to smuggle cannabis worth Rs 50 lakh into the neighboring state.

Dharmanagar Sub-divisional Police Officer, Debasish Saha, revealed that they received a tip-off about a container truck transporting a substantial quantity of cannabis from Tripura to Assam. Upon arrival at Churaibari, the police promptly halted the truck, bearing a West Bengal registration number, for inspection. However, amidst the chaos, the driver managed to flee the scene.

Undeterred, law enforcement officers conducted a thorough search of the vehicle, uncovering 35 packets of cannabis concealed within a secret compartment, totaling 275 kilograms. The market value of the seized contraband is estimated to be Rs 50 lakh.

The successful interception underscores the vigilance and commitment of Tripura Police in combating illicit activities along the state’s borders. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with authorities determined to apprehend those responsible for the smuggling attempt and dismantle associated networks.
