Tripura Police Held Up Salaries of 8 Personnel Over Failure to Meet Case Disposal Target

Northeast Desk, 8th December: Eight police personnel in Tripura’s Sepahijala district have had their salaries “held up” as they failed to meet the target for disposing of cases, according to an official statement on Thursday.

The individuals affected include five sub-inspectors (SIs) and three assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) stationed at the Bishalgarh police station. Over the last three months, they fell short of the set target, leading to Superintendent of Police BJ Reddy issuing an order to withhold their salaries.

The directive cites negligence in case disposal and consistent violation of superiors’ orders.

In the order, Superintendent Reddy mentioned that these personnel were assigned a target of 18 cases but only managed to dispose of three, including cases involving murders, rapes, and drug trafficking. Sepahijala, situated near the Bangladesh border, experiences a higher incidence of crimes such as smuggling, human trafficking, and drug-related offenses.

Assistant Inspector General (AIG – Law and Order) Jyotishman Das Chowdhury remarked on the unusual nature of disciplinary action against eight police personnel in a single station, emphasizing that the state police adheres to a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes.
