Tripura Police Seize 30 kg of Cannabis from Teliamura Railway Station, Arrest Four Smugglers

Northeast Desk, 13th May: In a continued effort to combat illicit drug trafficking, Tripura police made a significant seizure on May 13, confiscating approximately 30 kg of cannabis from Teliamura railway station in Tripura.

The Teliamura Police Station, acting on specific intelligence inputs, uncovered the cache of cannabis during their night patrol duties at the railway station. Four individuals involved in smuggling the consignment were swiftly apprehended by law enforcement authorities.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with further investigation currently underway to ascertain the full extent of the incident and identify any additional accomplices.

This latest operation follows a recent arrest made by Tripura Police on May 11, where one individual was apprehended and a substantial quantity of brown sugar, valued at Rs 1.2 crore, was seized at Charilam under Sepahijala District.

Providing details of the arrest, Sepahijala district Superintendent of Police B J Reddy explained that the suspect attempted to evade police scrutiny by speeding on a motorcycle. However, he was ultimately intercepted following a collision with a car in Charilam. Subsequent searches of the suspect’s belongings revealed the presence of brown sugar, totaling approximately 800 grams and valued at Rs 1.2 crore in the market.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the seized contraband originated from Agartala city and was en route to Sonamura under Sepahijala district. The swift action taken by law enforcement personnel underscores Tripura Police’s unwavering commitment to curbing drug trafficking activities and safeguarding public safety within the region.
