Tripura Police Seize Cannabis Worth Rs 20 Lakh in Dhalai District

Northeast Desk, 21st July: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Tripura Police seized cannabis worth Rs 20 lakh from the Kachucherra area under Kamalapur sub-division in Tripura’s Dhalai District.

Kamalpur Sub-divisional Police Officer Ayush Srivastava detailed the operation during a press briefing. The police acted on a tip-off from the Sub-divisional Police Officer of Ambassa regarding a suspicious vehicle. Attempts to intercept the vehicle initially failed as it fled the scene.

“When the car entered the Kamalapur sub-division, we received information that it was spotted in Kachucherra. Tripura Police launched an investigation to locate the vehicle and found it abandoned in a forested area. The driver had fled. Upon searching the vehicle, we recovered 200 kg of cannabis hidden inside the storage area of the car,” Srivastava explained.

The market value of the seized cannabis is estimated to be around Rs 20 lakh. The police have detained the vehicle and are actively pursuing the driver. “We will soon apprehend the drug peddler,” Srivastava assured.
