Tripura: President Confers Kirti Chakra Posthumously to CRPF CoBRA Commando Shambhu Roy
Northeast Desk, 12th July: President Droupadi Murmu honored Late CRPF CoBRA Commando Shambhu Roy with the prestigious Kirti Chakra Award posthumously for his bravery and sacrifice during a Maoist ambush on April 3, 2021. Roy, a native of Bhagyapur village in North Tripura, served in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur area, where he was part of a combing operation that faced a sudden attack by Maoist insurgents.
Constable Shambhu Roy, who joined the CoBRA battalion of the CRPF in 2015, tragically lost his life along with 21 fellow jawans in the ambush. He had visited his ancestral home just twelve days prior to the incident, leaving behind his grieving parents, Dwijraj Roy and Anjali Roy, and his brother.
In a solemn ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on July 5, President Droupadi Murmu presented the Kirti Chakra to Shambhu Roy’s parents, honoring his exceptional courage and dedication to duty. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and other dignitaries were present at the event to pay respects and acknowledge Roy’s sacrifice for the nation.
The award underscores the bravery of Shambhu Roy and serves as a testament to the sacrifices made by security forces in safeguarding the nation’s integrity and peace.
