Northeast, August 19 – On the 116th birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Bahadur Debbarma, the last ruler of Tripura’s Manikya Dynasty, rare photographs of the Maharaja have surfaced, offering a unique glimpse into the life of the 185th king of Tripura.
One notable photograph reveals the Maharaja in a private setting, seated alone in his music room with a harmonium and sitar, showcasing his personal interests and cultural engagement. Another striking image captures Maharaja Bir Bikram on a hunting expedition in the United States in 1940, wearing a hat and accompanied by Rajkumar Ramendra Kishore Debbarma. This image highlights the royal family’s international connections during that period.
Maharaja Bir Bikram’s influence extends beyond his reign, continuing to shape Tripura’s political landscape. He is the uncle of Jishnu Dev Varma, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura and current Governor of Telangana. Additionally, he is the great-grandfather of Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the former chairman of Tipra Motha and a prominent figure in the royal lineage.
These rare images not only celebrate the Maharaja’s historical significance but also connect present generations with Tripura’s rich royal heritage.
