Tripura Records Normal Monsoon in 2023 with Slight Rainfall Deficit
Northeast Desk, 11th November: The South-West Monsoon, which withdrew from Tripura on October 17, concluded the season with a recorded rainfall of 1274.7 mm against the normal value of 1391.1 mm. The seasonal departure of rainfall was approximately -8%, categorizing it as a normal monsoon year for the state, according to a report from Agartala Meteorological Centre.
Despite encountering three intense spells of rainfall during June, July, and August, contributing to 37% of the seasonal rainfall, the daily cumulative rainfall remained below normal initially. The monsoon activity weakened afterward, leading to below-normal rainfall in Sepahijala and South districts, classified as receiving deficient rainfall during the entire Monsoon 2023 season.
Six districts, including West, Gomati, Khowai, Dhalai, Unakoti, and North Tripura, received normal rainfall. While the timely distribution of monsoon rainfall faced challenges, with normalcy in June and September, July witnessed deficient rainfall, and August observed excess rainfall.
Despite the slight deficit, the monsoon season in 2023 was considered normal for Tripura, showcasing varied patterns across different districts. The highest positive departure of +6% was observed in West Tripura district, while South Tripura district recorded the highest deficiency.
