Tripura RS By-election on Sept 22

Guwahati: The Election Commission has released the date for the by-election for Tripura’s lone Rajya Sabha seat. The election day will take place on September 22nd.

After chief minister Dr. Manik Saha quit the seat earlier this year, an election for the Rajya Sabha seat became necessary.

Notably, Tripura’s Dr. Manik Saha was chosen to represent Tripura in the Rajya Sabha in April of this year.

Former Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb has, thus far, emerged as the front runner as a possible BJP candidate for the Rajya Sabha election from the state.

However, Saha was appointed as the chief minister of Tripura by the BJP soon after taking the oath as a Rajya Sabha MP.

Biplab Deb relinquished his position as chief minister of Tripura to Manik Saha on May 15.

Later in June, Saha was elected as an MLA from the Town Bordowali district to the Tripura legislature.

The current front-runner to represent the state as a probable BJP candidate in the 2019 Rajya Sabha elections is Biplab Deb, a former chief minister of Tripura.

On the other side, in the first part of 2019, the current Tripura Legislative Assembly’s term will come to a conclusion.

The election process for the new Tripura Legislative Assembly will take place by the end of February in 2019.
