Tripura Sees Improvement in Flood Situation as Gomti River Recedes; CM Praises Relief Efforts

Northeast Desk, 25th August: Tripura’s flood situation is beginning to show signs of improvement as water levels in the Gomti River start to recede, bringing a ray of hope to the beleaguered state. Chief Minister Manik Saha shared the encouraging news on social media, noting the restoration of key infrastructure in flood-hit areas.

“By the grace of God, the water level of the Gomti River is receding. The road from Amarpur to Korbook via Jatanbari is now functional. Our administration, NDRF, and SDRF teams are working tirelessly to restore normalcy in the affected areas,” Chief Minister Saha stated. He praised the relentless efforts of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), which have been instrumental in mitigating the impact of the floods.

Rescue and relief operations remain in full swing, with the NDRF deploying 11 teams across the state. In a remarkable evening operation, NDRF personnel successfully evacuated 125 individuals from flood-stricken regions in Gomti, Sepahijala, and Khowai districts. The Indian Air Force has also played a critical role, with helicopters from Agartala air-dropping over 4,000 food packets to stranded residents in Rangamati, Jatanbari, and Udaipur. So far, 28 tons of relief material have been airlifted to flood-affected areas.

To accommodate those displaced by the floods, the local administration has established 558 relief camps since August 19, providing essential shelter and facilities to thousands of flood victims. Chief Minister Saha expressed satisfaction with the progress made and assured that efforts to restore normalcy would continue.

“Our teams are making significant strides in overcoming this natural disaster, and we are committed to continuing our work to bring relief to all affected residents,” Saha concluded.
