Tripura Sees Significant Rise in Female Enrollment in Higher Education: CM Manik Saha

Northeast Desk, 8th September: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has announced a notable surge in the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) for female students in higher education across the state. Addressing the platinum jubilee celebration of Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya in Unakoti district, Saha revealed that the academic year 2024-25 has seen 37,450 girls enrolling in general degree colleges, surpassing the 35,800 boys enrolled. This continues a positive trend from the previous year when female enrollment reached 35,650, just behind 35,800 male students.

Saha credited this rise to the state government’s focused initiatives promoting women’s education and empowerment. Since 2022, Tripura has implemented free education for girls up to the college level, along with active participation in the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign. Other key measures include a 33% reservation for women in government jobs, the establishment of ‘pink toilets’ for female safety, and 50% reservation for women in government stalls.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the impact of the National Education Policy (NEP), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the state’s educational progress. He emphasized the future benefits of the NEP and mentioned the introduction of the ‘Lakshya’ scheme, which aids students in preparing for competitive exams. Additionally, Saha spoke of the upcoming Dhamma Dipa University in Sabroom, as well as the progress of Techno India University and Aryavart International University, which aim to boost educational infrastructure in the state.
