Tripura: Sepahijala Police Trio Suspended Amid Bribery Allegations
Agartala: In a decisive move against alleged misconduct, the Superintendent of Police of Tripura’s Sepahijala district, Bijoy Debbarma, announced the immediate closure and suspension of three police personnel. The actions target an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), a Constable, and a Special Police Officer (SPO), following an internal inquiry into serious allegations.
The investigation, as detailed by SP Bijoy Debbarma, revealed significant dereliction of duty on the part of the officers. “We have conducted an inquiry and found serious negligence in their duty,” stated Debbarma. The disciplinary measures resulted in the suspension of ASI Vivekananda Debbarma and Constable Badura Debbarma, alongside the closure of SPO Partha Das. “There were serious allegations against them. As a senior officer, the ASI should have taken responsibility and controlled the situation. Due to negligence, we have taken this action, and departmental proceedings will now follow,” he added.
Sources close to the matter indicate that the SP’s stringent actions stemmed from allegations of bribery. Specifically, the officers are accused of accepting a bribe from an individual during nighttime vehicle checks in the Bishramganj area of Sepahijala district. The alleged incident prompted the internal inquiry, leading to the suspensions and closures.
