Tripura to Get Another India Reserve Battalion, Boosting Security and Jobs

In a significant development for the northeastern state, the Union Home Ministry has approved the creation of an additional India Reserve (IR) Battalion for the Tripura State Rifles (TSR). This decision comes following a proposal put forth by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha during his recent discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital.

Chief Minister Saha shared the news with enthusiasm on social media, stating, “Big boost for Tripura! Union Ministry of Home Affairs sanctions raising of another India Reserve Battalion for Tripura State Rifles, enhancing security & generating employment opportunities. Grateful to Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji & Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji.”

Sources within the government indicate that the central government will provide a one-time financial assistance of ₹50 crore to facilitate the raising of this new IR Battalion. Furthermore, the Government of India will retain the prerogative to deploy this battalion anywhere within the country as operational needs arise.

In addition to the initial financial outlay, the Union Home Ministry will also extend financial support of up to ₹30 crore for infrastructure development, excluding the cost of land. This additional funding will be released upon the submission of detailed expenditure reports related to the infrastructure projects. This move is expected to significantly bolster the security apparatus of Tripura while simultaneously creating valuable employment opportunities for the state’s youth.
