Tripura to Launch Superspeciality Courses at Agartala Medical College
Agartala: In a significant move to elevate the state’s medical landscape, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Thursday that the government is planning to introduce superspeciality courses at the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC). This new initiative, declared during the college’s 21st foundation day celebration, follows the successful implementation of postgraduate medical courses and marks the state’s commitment to advancing medical education and healthcare.
Saha also revealed a forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AIIMS, New Delhi, to provide specialized training in hospital management. This collaboration stems from a recent visit by a team led by AIIMS Director N. Srinivas, who submitted a comprehensive report on enhancing services at GBP Hospital and AGMC. The MoU will soon be finalised, ensuring that doctors receive expert training to improve the administration of medical facilities.
Furthering its push for advanced medical services, the state has already conducted three successful kidney transplants at the GBP Hospital-AGMC campus. The Chief Minister shared ambitious plans to introduce liver and heart transplant facilities in the near future, which will drastically reduce the number of patients forced to travel outside the state for critical care.
Additionally, a modern 100-bed eye hospital is slated to be constructed at Khejurbagan in Agartala. The location has been finalised, and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is nearing completion. Funding for this crucial project has been secured in the current year’s budget. The Agartala Government Dental College (AGDC) is also set to introduce postgraduate courses in dentistry, adding another feather to the state’s cap in medical education.
