Tripura to Revamp ITIs with Tata Technologies Collaboration

Agartala: The Tripura government, in a significant move to bolster technical education, has approved a collaboration with Tata Technologies Limited. This partnership aims to upgrade 19 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state, Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced on Friday.

The five-year collaboration will see the introduction of 11 new trades to the ITI curriculum, along with infrastructure improvements. The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 683.27 crore, with Tata Technologies contributing 86% and the state government 14%.

“This initiative will not only enhance the skills of ITI graduates but also provide them with better job opportunities, including startup support and placements outside the state,” said Minister Chowdhury.

Addressing concerns about airfare on the Agartala-Kolkata route, Chowdhury clarified that the state government does not have direct control over pricing. He explained that airlines are responsible for setting fares, which are monitored by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). He assured that a majority of seats on flights are priced reasonably, and that higher fares are typically associated with last-minute bookings or peak travel seasons.

The minister also highlighted the UDAN scheme, which aims to make air travel affordable for the masses. However, he noted that the Agartala-Kolkata route does not fall under the scheme’s purview.
