Tripura University Hosts National Workshop on NEP 2020 Implementation
Agartala: Tripura University, in partnership with the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi, recently organized a two-day national workshop titled “National Education Policy 2020: Financial Application and Resource Mobilization by Higher Educational Institutions.” Held on December 19 and 20, the event focused on addressing the unique challenges of implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in the Northeastern region.
The workshop brought together 50 participants from across Northeast India, including finance officers, registrars, directors of higher education departments, and other stakeholders. Prof. Ganga Prasad Prasain, Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University, emphasized the importance of exploring practical strategies to implement NEP 2020 effectively in universities and colleges. Distinguished resource persons from different parts of India shared their expertise, providing valuable insights on financial planning and resource mobilization to strengthen the policy’s implementation.
Professor Mona Khare, Head of the Department of Education Finance at NIEPA, highlighted the critical financial challenges associated with NEP 2020. She noted that while the policy introduces transformative changes, including mandatory skills training, a focus on research and innovation, and robust support systems for disadvantaged students, these initiatives demand substantial funding. The workshop provided a platform to discuss strategies for resource generation, enabling institutions to meet these demands while ensuring inclusivity and quality education.
Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on sustainable financial practices, with a particular focus on overcoming the constraints of limited infrastructure and resources in the Northeastern region. The workshop also aimed to equip institutions with tools for achieving financial self-reliance, recognizing the growing financial pressures resulting from increased student enrollment and expanded policy initiatives.
This collaborative effort by Tripura University and NIEPA marks a significant step in addressing the specific needs of higher education in Northeast India. By aligning with the broader national goals of the NEP 2020, the initiative seeks to create a more inclusive, innovative, and financially sustainable framework for education in the region.
