Tripura Visit by PM Modi, Slated on December 17 Cancelled

Guwahati: The visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was provisionally scheduled to spend the day in Tripura on December 17 has been cancelled.

According to reports, PM Modi was scheduled in Agartala on December 17 to address at a party event and dedicate a few state-run development projects.

The Prime Minister was anticipated to make a number of significant announcements from the public gathering in light of the impending elections. However, the programme has been cancelled, though.

Tripura will likely hold elections in mid-February of the following year.

The Prime Minister’s scheduled visit in the election-bound state would have further boosted the campaign process, even though Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha is already there and actively participating in numerous administrative and organisational programmes throughout the state every day.

An earlier protest in support of “Greater Tipraland” was held in front of Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on December 5 by the Tripura sociopolitical regional party Tipra Motha.

More than 1500 Tripurans participated in the protest in the capital, and the party is now debating running unopposed in the forthcoming state Assembly elections.

TIPRA Motha made the decision to stage a two-day peaceful protest in New Delhi on December 5 and 6 in an effort to press their demands for ‘Greater Tipraland’ to defend indigenous peoples’ rights.
