Tripura Vows Full Support to BCCI for New Cricket Academy

Agartala — The Tripura government has pledged its full support to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the establishment of a state-of-the-art cricket academy in the state. This significant announcement was made by Chief Minister Manik Saha during the annual award function of the Tripura Cricket Academy (TCA), where he stressed the importance of providing top-notch facilities to the state’s aspiring cricketers.

Chief Minister Saha, who recently visited the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, expressed his admiration for the facilities available there and highlighted the need for a similar setup in Tripura. “To become a successful cricketer, one needs to be physically and mentally fit. He or she needs to get proper training, and this will be possible only when a cricket academy is available,” he stated.

Saha assured that the state government is ready to provide all necessary assistance to the BCCI to make this a reality. He further added that if a land requisition proposal is received from the BCCI, the government would consider it with utmost seriousness. The Chief Minister also urged the TCA to expand cricketing facilities to the subdivision level, especially to address the challenges posed by the state’s monsoon climate, which limits outdoor play to only a few months a year. “I told the TCA to create facilities at the subdivision level so that players could practice there during the monsoon, as the state’s climate doesn’t allow them to play more than four months,” he said.

In a promising development for the state’s cricketing future, the Chief Minister also revealed that the international cricket stadium currently under construction in West Tripura is on track to be completed within the next six months.
